The Cancer Fighter Scholarship. Due April 1, 2024

 

This scholarship seeks to honor up to ten (10) graduating high school seniors from around the nation who have been leaders in the fight against cancer. This includes students who have battled cancer themselves, helped loved ones/friends through cancer, or led the fight against cancer in their school and community.

 

How to Apply

Eligibility Requirements

You must be a graduating senior from a public or private high school planning to attend a post-high school institution (two or four year college, vocational or technical school) within the United States in the fall of 2024. ​Financial need is not considered. 

  • Up to ten $1000 scholarship winners will be selected in late spring 2024 and winners will be notified via email. 

  • All winners will be required to supply a few bits of additional informationLinks to an external site. so we can process awards.

  • The winners' videos will be released on SMAC’s website in June 2024.

  • Tuition money will be sent directly to the accredited institution to which you are accepted and plan to attend.

Vandeventer Scholarship Fund. Due April 1, 2024

​

The Vandeventer Scholarship Fund was created at The Pittsburgh Foundation by Robert L. Feller (Linden class of 1936) and Ruth M. Johnston-Feller in honor of Mr. Feller’s aunt and uncle, Mr. John Marshall and Catherine Buckelew Vandeventer. This scholarship is to be used for graduating seniors of Linden High School in Linden, New Jersey. Mr. and Mrs.Vandeventer lived on Ainsworth Street across from the high school and three blocks from Mr. Feller’s boyhood home.

William H. Feller and Edna B. Feller Scholarship Fund. Due April 1, 2024

​

The William H. Feller and Edna B. Feller Scholarship was established at The Pittsburgh Foundation by their son, Robert L. Feller Ph.D. to honor his parents and the fact that he received his primary scholastic training in the Linden Public School System beginning with primary school on Wood Avenue at the foot of Gibbens Street through Junior High and graduation from Linden High School in the class of 1937. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1941 with a major in chemistry and received his M.S. degree from Rutgers University, New Brunswick in 1943. During WWII, he served in the Navy from 1944-1946, where he ended up his service teaching sonar and other electronic instrumentation at the Naval Training School at Navy Pier, in Chicago. Following discharge, he returned to Rutgers where, upon receiving his Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry in 1950, he accepted a newly established position at Mellon Institute in Pittsburgh, PA, sponsored by the National Gallery of Art and Pittsburgh’s Mellon institute to conduct research on the deterioration of paints, pigments, and varnishes. Over the next thirty eight years until his retirement in 1988, he became internationally known, receiving many honors for his numerous studies on the aging of varnishes and the fading of pigments, in parts summing up in books “On Picture Varnishes and Their Solvents”, “Accelerated Aging”, and “Artists Pigments”, the latter the first of a four-volume series published by the National Gallery of Art. There were also a number of joint publications with his wife, Ruth Johnston Feller, a well-known expert in color science.

Marine Trades Association Scholarship. Due April 1, 2024

​

The Marine Trades Association of New Jersey (MTA/NJ) is pleased to announce the availability of a $1500 scholarship for students entering a recreational marine industry vocational, technical or college program.

 

Junior League of Elizabeth-Plainfield Scholarship - Due April 5, 2024

 

The Junior League of Elizabeth - Plainfield presents scholarships to deserving college-bound senior women who have gone above and beyond in service to their community through volunteerism. Awarded to a female college bound HS senior residing in Union County who demonstrates outstanding commitment to volunteerism & community service. *Application cover sheet, 300-400 word essay, two recommendations.

Pomptonian Giovina Coscia Memorial Scholarship. Due April 5, 2024

​

This scholarship is awarded in memory of Giovina Coscia, a wonderful mother and a caring and giving grandmother. Her greatest pride and joy came from her family and friends. She was a superior leader who worked hard to build her own successful food service business. Mrs. Coscia sincerely believed in the value of a good education and hard work, values which she sought to instill in her family, friends, and employees. She is remembered for her friendliness, selflessness, integrity, and dedication to excellence.

 

Pomptonian will award four (4) $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors in the school districts we serve who are going on to college (children of Pomptonian employees are not eligible).

 

Special consideration will be given to students pursuing a career in Business, Culinary Arts or Hotel, Restaurant and Hospitality Management.

Omega Psi Phi Merit Scholarship. Due 4/6/24

​

Attached please find a copy of our 2024 Scholarship Application. We are requesting that you make this application available to graduating seniors of the Class of 2024 who plan to attend a four-year college or university.

While not excluding anyone, we are especially interested in students who plan to major in one of the S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs. In 2023, we awarded over $12,000 in scholarships.

 

ELIGIBILTY REQUIREMENTS:

1. Graduating High School Senior

2. Official copy of High School Transcript

3. Minimum Cumulative Grade Point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale)

4. Official SAT/ACT score (Optional)

5. Two Letters of Recommendation (Administrator, Counselor, Teacher or Non-Relative)

6. Extracurricular Activities

7. Community Service Projects

8. Complete two required essays (MINIMUM of 250 words each)

The New Jersey Electronic Life Safety Association Scholarship. Due April 12, 2024

​

The New Jersey Electronic Life Safety Association (NJELSA) awards college scholarships to sons and daughters of active-duty police and fire personnel.

The NJELSA scholarship award is a small way for our industry to say thank you to our very dedicated public safety community and to help pay for an advanced education for deserving students.

Awards are based on a combination of academic achievement, national test scores, extracurricular participation and the essay. In addition to completing the application and submitting the appropriate documentation, each student must write an essay explaining “What it means to me to have my parent or guardian involved in securing our community."

CBC Spouses Education Scholarship. Due April 13, 2024

​

This opportunity awards scholarships to academically talented and highly motivated African-American or Black students pursuing an undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral degrees in a variety of fields.

Bayway Community Advisory Panel Scholarship. Due April 15, 2024

​

Scholarship Intro Letter

 

For the year 2024, the Bayway CAP has elected to offer High School Seniors who are residents of Linden, Elizabeth, Rahway, and Staten Island the opportunity to be awarded a scholarship. Several scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded to students in these municipalities. This scholarship is open to candidates who will be pursuing advanced education in the Industrial / Process Technology, Computer Science or Engineering fields (i.e., Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Environmental), supporting the Chemical & Refining Industries (non-medical).

Mary Kay Wanchik Memorial Scholarship. Due April 15, 2024

​

Mary Kay was a beloved and dedicated teacher who was active in the Linden School System for thirteen years. Mary Kay truly loved working with all of her students in the media center as well as serving as an advisor to the senior class and the Linden Boosterettes. As assistant director Mary Kay especially enjoyed the time she spent with everyone involved in the school musicals. 

 

Please be advised of the following: 

 

1. Awards will be made only to residents of Linden, NJ. 

 

2. Cash awards will be made upon your matriculation in the Fall. 

 

3. FINANCIAL NEED will be the main factor for determining who will be awarded 

scholarships; however, because of the great number of applicants, we must use other criteria, such as academic achievement, contribution to school and community, ambition and extra curricular activities to aid in our decision. 

 

4. Application must be signed by a parent/guardian and by the student. 

 

5. Applicants should attach transcripts to the completed application. 

 

6. Information that you entrust to us is reviewed only by the scholarship committee members.

George Dorin ROTC Scholarship. Due April 15, 2024

​

The George Dorin ROTC Scholarship shall be awarded annually to the NJROTC cadet with the following credentials:

 

  1. Have been enrolled in Linden High School NJROTC for at least 2 years and be in good standing.

  2. The cadet must be in his/her senior year and scheduled to graduate in June.

  3. The cadet must have overcome major adversity while attending high school.

  4. The cadet may request this scholarship by submitting the attached application. 

  5. The scholarship must be applied towards tuition at a college, trade school, or other professional training program.

  6. If the cadet does not use the money for one of the aforementioned program(s), the money will be returned/refunded back to the George Dorin ROTC Scholarship Fund. In either case, the cadet’s name will be inscribed on the George Dorin Scholarship plaque, which will be kept in the NJROTC classroom.

 

Linden BOE Scholarship. Due April 15, 2024

​

The Linden Board of Education will award a scholarship to a senior based upon evidence of ability, character, and potential for success in the fields of communication and engineering technologies.

​

Linden School Administrators and Supervisors Scholarships. Due April 15, 2024

​

The Linden School Administrators and Supervisors will award one $500 scholarship to a graduate planning to further their education at an accredited college, technical, or business school. 

​

William Treuchtlinger Scholarship. Due April 15, 2024

​

Two $8,000 scholarships will be awarded each year, one to a female graduating senior and one to a male graduating senior from Linden High School.  The beneficiaries each year shall be selected without regard to race, color or creed but on the basis of academic excellence, community service and need.

​

Kenneth Hetem Memorial Scholarship. Due April 15, 2024

​

The KENNETH HETEM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP was founded by the good friends and family of Kenneth Hetem. Ken was the ideal hard working American, doing his fair share in every aspect of his life. With his passing, those who knew him well were struck with great loss, and from their hearts came the resolve not to let this very fine individual’s example fade with the passing of time. Remembering Ken’s love and dedication to the game of football as a lineman on the Linden High School Football Team, and his sportsmanship, enthusiasm and support of his fellow players, they established the KENNETH HETEM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.

       The scholarship is a One Year Scholarship toward a higher Education. The scholarship will be paid to the recipient’s school for tuition.

 

       The criteria for selection is as follows:

 

1.    The student selected must pursue a higher education for at least one full year to be eligible for the scholarship. (College or Trade School qualifies. If you wish to attend another form of education, specify this on your application.) If the student fails to complete one full year of the proposed higher education, then any refund due to the student tuition shall be remitted to the Scholarship Foundation, in an amount not to exceed the original amount of the scholarship. 

2.    The recipient must be a member of Linden High School Varsity Football Team and must have regularly played the position of Lineman on either Offense or Defense (including Guard, Tackle, End, or Center).

3.    The recipient must have a quality of Good Attitude, School Spirit, Teamsmanship, and Good Sportsmanship so as to be described as a Player with “Heart.” 

4.    The recipient must meet such standards of competence at playing one of the above positions of football, so as to be considered a Good Player.

5.    The recipient must be considered at least an average student academically.

Linden HS PTA Scholarship. Due April 15, 2024

This scholarship has been established by the Linden High School PTA

​

Reformed Church of Linden Scholarship. Due April 15, 2024

​

The Reformed Church of Linden is offering a $500 scholarship to a student at Linden High School whose goal is to pursue higher education at an accredited college, business school, or technical school. 

-The recipient of this scholarship NEED NOT be at the top of the class. Instead, we are looking for a student who might have, for whatever reason, (personal, family, etc.) experienced challenges that made achievement in high school more difficult.

Highland Avenue School 10 Scholarship. Due April 15, 2024

​

Highland Avenue School No. 10’s motto is the “Little School with the Biggest Heart!” We value community service, giving back to the Linden community, giving back to the school community, acts of kindness, improving to be your best self and of course having school spirit.

 

To be eligible for consideration, the applicant must be a graduating Senior form Linden Public Schools and have attended Highland Avenue School No. 10.

         ~ Have given back to the Linden community or school community.

         ~ Provide academic achievements

         ~ Involvement in the school and Linden communities

         ~ 1 letter of recommendation

Kao Kalia Yang Scholarship. Due April 15, 2024

​

The Robin-Hwajin Yoon Kim Foundation which supports education, the underprivileged, and positive social impact initiatives has established ‘Kao Kalia Yang Scholarship’ to help economically-challenged Hmong American youth fulfill their dreams of obtaining higher education. The scholarship is open to high school seniors planning to attend college in the Fall of 2024. If selected, $5,000 will be awarded each year for up to four years (upon meeting renewal requirements).

Blood descendants of Hmong race or ethnically identified as Hmong American (with a citizenship or as a permanent resident.)

High school senior residing in the United States

Plan to attend a University or Community College as a 1st year student in Fall 2024 (If selected, must submit college acceptance letter for verification.)

Have a minimum cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 2.8
Have a household income at or below the Federal/State/County Low Income Level (Must be

able to show 2022 or 2023 tax return should applicant be selected for award.) The scholarship is open to ALL MAJORS

Taiwanese American Scholarship Fund. Due April 15, 2024

​

The Taiwanese American Scholarship Fund is focused on helping economically-challenged Taiwanese American youth fulfill their dreams of obtaining higher education. The scholarship is open to high school seniors planning to attend college in the Fall of 2024 and Ist year college students continuing their education in the Fall of 2024.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (holders of a Permanent Resident Card) AND direct blood descendant of a Taiwanese citizen

  • High school seniors or Ist year college student residing in the United States

  • Plan to attend a University or College as a lst or 2nd year student in the Fall of 2024 (if selected, must submit college acceptance letter for verification)

  • A minimum cumulative unweighted high school/college GPA of 3.0

  • Demonstrated financial need for the scholarship (must be able to show 2022 or 2023 tax return should applicant be selected for award.

Linden High School Class of 1971 Scholarship. Due April 15, 2024

​

The LHS Class of 1971 scholarship is open to any Linden High School student continuing his or her education at an accredited four-year college, two-year college, trade or technical school.

 In 300 words or less please explain what being the recipient of this scholarship means to you.  Include your name, address, and schools applying to at the top of your essay, and email to: Scholarships@lindenps.org

H2M Architects and Engineers STEAM Scholarship. Due April 15, 2024

 

The H2M Architects and Engineers STEAM Scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit and character to a graduating senior who is planning to attend college and enroll in a science, technology, engineering, architecture, or math (STEAM) degree program

Vilolette Thompson Scholarship. Due April 15, 2024

​

The Violette Thompson Scholarship is awarded to a Linden High School student for superior performance in academic achievement and extracurricular involvement. The Violette Thompson Scholarship Fund was created in 1995, in memory of Violette L. Thompson, because of her sincere interest and diligence in providing scholarships for African American students in the Linden community. To date, we have awarded over $60,000 in scholarships to students in Linden, New Jersey and Jamestown, North Carolina.

THE ARIEL RIVAS ROSADO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. Due April 15, 2024

 

For those of you who knew Ariel, you know he was filled with life, promise, and a future filled with success. Ariel was a child who was warm, caring and passionate about so many things. His presence at School #4 began as a toddler and continued through the years. Ariel was a committed member of schoolwide organizations such as K-Kids, Safety Patrol, Technology Student Vanguard, Environmental Club, Chorus, Band and the Gifted and Talented program. He enjoyed playing basketball; however, dance was his true passion. He would practice for countless hours to give the audience a wonderful show. We wish to honor his enthusiasm for life and helping others by awarding a one-year scholarship to an individual who shares similar interests. 

CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY:

  1. Must be a member of the graduating class of Linden High School of 2024. 

  2. Be accepted by a college or university for the fall of 2024.

  3. Preference will be given to a graduate of Linden School #4.

  4. Application must be submitted by April 15, 2024.

Scholarship Letter

​

The Musical Club of Westfield is pleased to announce that college scholarships are available to qualified high school seniors. In order to qualify, the student must provide evidence of outstanding musical and academic achievement, financial need, and a commitment to pursuing a degree in music at an accredited music school or college. Residency in Union County is also a requirement for application, unless the student is a member in good standing of the Junior Musical Club of Westfield. All members of the Junior Musical Club of Westfield are eligible regardless of county of residency.

MARC WESLEY HARDY HUMAN RIGHTS AWARD. Due April 26, 2024

​

The Board of Ministries of First Congregational Church of Westfield is currently seeking nominations for the 2024 Marc Wesley Hardy Human Rights Award. Candidates must be young people between the ages of 16-22, living in Westfield or the greater Union County area, who have distinguished themselves in the area of human rights. It will be offered to a person who has shown:

​

• Openness and friendliness to people of all races, creeds, and nationalities; involvement and leadership in organizations and activities committed to improving human relations; unusual personal dignity; the willingness to risk for what he or she believes is right; unqualified acceptance of others; respect for diversity; personal integrity; caring and willingness to listen; and the ability to lead by example.

​

The recipient will receive both a Certificate and a monetary award. Nominations must be received no later than April 26, 2024. The winner can expect to be notified in early May.

​

The award is named in honor of Marc Hardy, a member of our church, who was killed in a car accident in 1990 shortly before his graduation from Westfield High School. He was a National Merit Scholar, a gifted singer and actor, and very passionate about human rights.

Xavier McClain Athletic Scholarship. Due April 27, 2024

​

The Linden Public Schools Athletic Department will award the Xavier McClain Athletic Scholarship to a Linden High School senior athlete who will be matriculating academic endeavors beyond high school as students in an accredited institution for higher learning (including but not limited to college/trade schools/technical schools, etc.).

All candidates seeking this scholarship must submit the following:

  • A letter of recommendation from one of your school teachers, coaches, or counselors;

  • An official school transcript;

  • Letter of Acceptance and/ or Letter of Intent from the accredited institution of higher learning and your proof of intent of attending (school ID card, bill, etc.);

  • Completed Application; and

  • A 250-word essay on the following question:

    1. What does it mean to be a good student on the field, in the classroom, and in the community?
