An array of new skills

The student-driven Technology Vanguard desk stands at the ready inside the front entrance for student leaders to offer assistance to their peers.

From classroom to classroom, technology is not an end goal, but a tool for collaborative learning among teachers and students. It opens a world of possibilities to allow lessons to be student-driven.

Classes such as TV/digital media, graphic arts, engineering, and music tap into the creativity of students, allowing them to use technology to create videos, music, art, and an online presence that are expressions of themselves, while building a portfolio for high education or careers.

Physical education classes use Darebee, a fitness website with a number of different workouts and challenges. Our Navy Junior ROTC creates iMovie videos for recruitment and publicity.

Dance classes use Garage Band, Apple Music, iTunes, and YouTube for music and choreography.

Our accelerated International Baccalaureate program provides a globally conscious and rigorous approach to instruction, including required technological components to its Theory of Knowledge and Visual Arts classes. These highly motivated students also use technology daily for annotations, digital projects utilizing iMovie and GarageBand, creation of infographics with Keynote, and more.

Our ESL Department uses a myriad of online resources to help our English Language Learner become accustomed to the language and develop confidence in their speaking and writing skills. Beyond just understanding, students use tools such as iMovie, Microsoft Excel and Word, Keynote and Powerpoint to develop workplace and presentation skills.

Our Special Education Department puts the focus on flexible and differentiated lessons to meet students where their needs are using a number of online resources, such as Kahoot, Quizzes, Edmentum, Brainpop, and ActiveClassroom.

In Language Arts, lessons center on “Ed: Your Friend in Learning,” an online learning system that combines technology, content, and instruction to personalize teaching programs for every teacher and student. We also use Khan Academy exercises for SAT prep, Quizlet for vocabulary, and OneDrive to share documents and monitor student progress on writing assignments.
